Yovii

Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 2026

Yovii is operated by Lunarock Studios Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales. This page explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and what your rights are.

The short version

You can browse and contribute without creating an account. We do not sell your data. We do not run advertising. We collect the minimum information needed to make the service work.

What we collect and why

Anonymous session token

When you first visit Yovii, we store a randomly generated identifier in your browser's local storage. It is not a cookie. It does not contain your name, email address, IP address, or any other personal information.

We use it to keep track of your contributions so that the site works consistently for you. For example, it allows the site to recognise that a particular answer was submitted in your current browser, without knowing who you are.

You can delete this token at any time by clearing your browser's local storage. If you do, you will be treated as a new anonymous visitor.

Legal basis: Legitimate interests. The service cannot link your own contributions together without it. The token itself does not contain personally identifiable information.

Contribution data

If you answer questions, add a place, submit a note, or report a place, we store that contribution in our database, linked to your anonymous session token. This is the core purpose of Yovii: building a shared factual record about places.

We do not store your name, email address, or any other personal information alongside your contribution unless you choose to provide it.

Legal basis: Legitimate interests. You choose to submit contributions. We store them to make the service work.

Optional email address and display name

After submitting answers, you may choose to provide an email address to link your contributions to one place. This is optional. You can contribute anonymously without providing one.

If you provide an email address, we use it to identify your contributions across sessions. We may occasionally contact you about contribution rewards or recognition. We will not send marketing emails or share your email address with third parties.

You can also provide an optional display name. This is not shown publicly at this time.

To delete your email address from our records, contact us at contact@lunarockstudios.com.

Legal basis: Consent. You choose whether to provide your email address. You may withdraw consent at any time by contacting us.

Question suggestions

If you use the Suggest a question form, we store your suggestion together with the anonymous session token from your browser. The session token is used solely to help us identify and limit abusive submissions. We do not collect your name or email address through this form. Suggestions are reviewed privately by the Yovii team and are not published or shown publicly.

Legal basis: Legitimate interests. Suggestions are retained for internal editorial review and discarded when no longer useful.

Analytics

We use Vercel Analytics to understand how people use Yovii. It does not use cookies and does not collect personal data. We receive aggregated information such as page views, countries, device types and basic usage events. No information that could identify you personally is collected or stored through analytics.

Third parties who process data on our behalf

We use the following services to operate Yovii:

  • Supabase (database hosting): stores place and contribution data on servers located in the European Union.
  • Vercel (website hosting and analytics): serves the Yovii website and provides cookieless, aggregated usage analytics.

We do not share your data with any other third parties. We do not sell data.

How long we keep data

Anonymous session tokens persist in your browser until you clear them or your browser removes them. Contribution data (answers, places added, reports) is kept for as long as the site operates, as it forms the community record the service is built on.

If you have provided an email address, you can ask us to delete it at any time by emailing us.

Your rights

Under UK law you have the right to:

  • Ask what personal data we hold about you
  • Ask us to correct inaccurate data
  • Ask us to delete your data
  • Object to how we use your data
  • Ask us to restrict processing of your data
  • Receive your data in a portable format

Because most contributions are anonymous (linked only to a session token, not to your identity), exercising some of these rights may require you to provide your session token or other details so we can identify your records.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at contact@lunarockstudios.com.

You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page when our data practices change. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last updated.
